Term 1:
Week 1: Aug.31st-Sept.1st
Religion: The class discussed the role of the chaplain in a school and our expectations for our religion classes throughout Transition Year.
Irish: Our teacher briefed us on what is going to be involved in taking part in the Fainne Award.
Enterprise: We discussed the young enterprise awards and how to form groups and produce a product or service to enter the competition.
English: The class talked about racism in the past and at the present moment.
Science: Brainstormed about ideas to enter the BT Young Scienitst competition.
Maths: Our teacher explained what will be involved in Transition Year maths.
Music: We split up into groups and brainstormed about ideas for our variety show.
Week 2: Sept.4th-8th
P.E: Ms.Barry thaught us how to hold the tennis racket and the different grips that tennis players use to do the best they can while playing the game.
Enterprise: We used these classes to develop our ideas for the young enterprise competition.
Drama: We reinacted scenes from the Brian Freil play 'Philadelphia Here I Come'.
French: We were informed as to how many projects and what we have to do thoughout the course of Transition Year french.
Music: We tried singing different songs and melodies to get a feel who in the class had a gift for singing as to prepare for our variety show.
Maths: We began learning a topic in maths called 'analytics'.
Irish: We watched an Irish film entitled 'Clare sa Speir', which was to be covered to complete our Fainne Award.
Tutor: Ms.Murtagh told us the upcoming events for us as Transition Year students aswell as giving out consent forms and letters to give to our parents explaining our trips and events.
Construction: The class began working with Solid Works.
Guidance: We were shown what is on the course for guidance and all the different areas and topics we will be covering throughout this year.
English: We analysed famous stories like that of the story of the bus which saw Rosa Parks stand up for black people's rights.
Art: We were brought down town to draw certain buildings around the town. My particular group drew the Church of Ireland church.
Business: We were given notes on enterprsing people in business and how the world of business works.
Religion: As our class has religion class between the two days of Wednesday and Thursday every week we did not participate in religion class this week due to The Healthy Program workshop that took place on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th September.
Information Technology: As our class has I.T class on a Wednesday evening we did not participate in I.T class this week due to The Healthy Program workshop that took place on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th September.
European Union Studies: As our class has EU Studies class on a Wednesday evening we did not participate in EU Studies class this week due to The Healthy Program workshop that took place on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th September.
Home Economics:As our class has Home Economics class on a Thursday morning we did not participate in Home Economics class this week due to The Healthy Program workshop that took place on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th September.
Week 3: Sept.11th-15th
P.E: We played tennis and practiced how to hold the racket, how to serve and how to use strategy to win a match.
Enterprise:Ms.Hayes distributed notes on the topic opf enterprise so we could learn about the subject and that area of business.
Drama: Mr.Coughlan explained what will be involved in the run up to the Variety Show.
French: We completed self-reflection worksheetsin french to get us back inton the routine of french class and to see what level our french was at.
Music: Ms.Coyle prepared a song called 'Waiting For The World To Change' by John Meyer and by the end of the week the whole class where able to sing the song loud and proud and we enjoyed doing a practical activity.
Maths: We continued learning about the area of analytics aswell as working on our graph-reading skills and correct data presentation.
Irish: We conitnued analysing the film 'Clare sa Speir' for our Fainne Award.
Tutor: Ms.Murtagh told us everything we needed to bring to our otuing to Knnock Shrine on Thursday 14th.
Construction: Mr.Fallon helped us navigate the Soliworks system and showed us how to draft, sketch and produce designs of solid objects.
Guidance: The class worked on the Careers Portal website and carried out a quiz to help us detemine what areas we should consider when looking for work experience and even into the future for choosing courses for college or if we are more suited to apreticeships.
English: We analysed some famous and some not as well known speeches delivered by prominant figures in history. We looked at speeches like those of Martin Luther King Jr. and Eamonn De Valera. By the end of the week we had gained enough skills to now know how to write a speech and deliver it effectively.
Art: We helped Ms.Lawne arrange showcases of art troughout the school as she was arranging an art exhibition and we wanted to showcase all the lovely works of art students from Portumna CS had created.
Business: We used this business class to research ideas for enterprise projects to help us speed up the process of getting our businesses on the ground and trading.
Religion: We debated about social problems in Ireland at the moment.
Information Technology: We were thaught how to set up our e-portfolios and how to enable our school email adresses.
European Studies: We were told about the Euroscola competition that our class will be competing in later in the year.
Science: We worked on our Young Scientist entries.

P.E: We played tennis and learned about the game.
Enterprise: We learned theory about entrepreneurship.
Drama: Mr.Coughlan cast the roles for our classe's production of 'Philadelphia Here I Come' by Brain Friel.
French: We continued working on worksheets.
Music: We worked on learning and singing the tonic solfa.
Maths: We discussed maths' influence in real life and how it helps us in everyday life.
Irish: We used our irish classes during this week to compose a report on our experience in Delphi.
Tutor: We were in a dancing workshop with Angela Didek on Tuesday 26th so we did'nt have tutor.
Construction: We worked on Solid Works again.
Guidance: We were in the millinery workshop with Suzie Mahony on Tuesday 26th which meant we missed our guidance class.
English: We watched videos and clips about All-Ireland Sunday and how the whole atmosphere of the All-Ireland is created.
Art: We went down to Portumna Castle and Gardens to sketch plants and leaves and to study designs and patterns in nature.
Business: We studied more theory in preparation for and assessment coming up in the future.
Information Technology: We were told about how technology helps us in real life and how we can use technology to our advantage in the education system.
Religion: We held a walking debate to determine were people stand when it comes to social and justice issues both in this country and abroad.
European Studies: Our teacher told us about different competitions and projects that we could get involved in to compete against other schools in the country and europe.
Science: We researched what young scienist projects have gotten furhtest in the competition and compared our projects to those that won prizes or got special awards to see how we might be able improve if we get though.
Home Economics: We made pancakes in this class as it was our first home economics class.
Week 6 : Oct.3rd-6th
P.E: We were briefed on what would be involved in Leaving Certificate if we were to take it on as a subject next year.
Enterprise: We learned the difference between different types of entrpreneurs such as non-profit organisations and they commercial entrepreneurs.
Drama: We learned and practiced songs for the variety show such as 'Calypso' from Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat and 'Little List' from the Hot Mikado.
French: We worked on comprehensions and we took vocabulary from the piece that we could us in our Leaving Certificate exam for essays or in our french oral.
Music: We practiced playing the ukaleles and danced and sang to songs from 'All Shook Up'.
Maths: We completed a business plan based on our understanding of analytics.
Irish: We learned vocabulary from our Leaving Certificate oral books.
Tutor: Ms.Murtagh allowed us to work on our e-portfolios.
Construction: We worked on e-drawing on Solid Works.
Guidance: We did a personality on Careers Portal to determine what area of the work force we should consider joining.
English: We began reading the novel 'The Help' aswell as completing a chapter summary everynight and a personal reflection.
Art: We made clay bowls aswell as designing them and using fabrics for texture.
Business: We learned about dfferent types of entrpreneurs and business people.
Information Technology: We worked on our e-portfolios aswell as getting a tutorial of how to navigate the weebly website.
Religion: We worked on worksheets to do with social justice aswell as inequality throughout the world today.
European Studies: We looked at the history behind what we know today as The European Union.
Science: We studied genetics in animals and humans.
Home Economics: As our class has Home Economics class on a Thursday morning we did not participate in Home Economics class this week due to Alan Devine coming into the school to explain how to speak confidently in front of a crowd.
Week 7: Oct.9th-13th
P.E: We did the beep test along with learning about fundamental movements and we were also thaught how to run correctly.
Enterprise: We continued to work on our enterprise ideas and researched the market for our products or services.
Drama: Mr.Coughlan thaught us about what is involved in porducing a variety show and we also worked on songs like 'Calypso' and 'Little List'.
French: We discussed the importance of work experience and also the projects we we'll have to complete throughout the year as part of our school's Transition Year french curriculum.
Music: We practiced getting used to the ukalele and we also used these classes to work on songs from 'All Shook Up'.
Maths: We worked on riddles and mathematical problems that we also had to complete for homework.
Irish: We did quizes to find out how much we had learned since the start of transition year.
Tutor: Ms.Murtagh allowed us to work on our portfoilios and she advised us about work experience.

English: We continued to read the novel 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett.
Art: We worked with slabs this week which involved designing a vase and then creating our design out of clay and fabric.
Business: We read about entrepreneurs in Ireland and we prepared for our assessment next week.
Information Technology: We logged on to our Microsoft Office accounts and set up different goruop chats within our Transition year group.
Science: We began studying Leaving Certificate genetics ie. learning about X and Y chromosomes.
European Studies: We read about the history of the European Union and what was ten called the 'EEC'.
Religion: Ms.Dunne told us stories about her adventures volunteering abroad, aswell as telling us about the Team Hope shoebox appeal.
Home Economics: We made sweet chili chicken cakes.

Maths: We attempted mind-boggling logistic mathematical riddles and problems to help develop the logistical side of our brains.
Irish: We began studying sraith pictúirí in class as part of our leaving cert course as they come up during the irish oral.
Tutor: Ms.Murtagh told us about the TY Bank of Ireland NUIG Academy and we entered if we were interested in going.

Religion: We completed worksheets, used stilmulus to do crreative writing, in my case a poem and in Thursday's class, we discussed 'Mary untier of Knots'.
European Studies: We reflected on our knowledge of the European Union.
Science: We took down the steps of the method to carry out a Leaving Cert biology experiment that we will be doing the week after midterm.
Home Economics: We cooked healthy chicken curry.

Music: We broke into smaller groups and mapped out scenes that will be included in the variety show.
Maths: We put time into solving mind boggling maths problems that can be solved using mathematical means.
Irish: We began a different part of out Fáinne award where we analyse old stories.
Tutor: We went down to the gym to prepare our roles for the variety show.

Home Economics: As our class has Home Economics class on a Thursday morning we did not participate in Home Economics class this week due to the young SVP conference that took place in Knock Shrine on Thursday 14th September.
Week 4 :Sept.18th-22th
P.E: We played tennis and learned a lot more about the game.
Enterprise: We discussed the Young Entrepreneur competition that the class will be participating in later in the year.
Drama: We performed some of the opening scenes from 'Philadelphia Here I Come' by Brian Friel.
French: We completed worksheets and comprehensions to do with Transition Year in France and abroad.
Music: We had assistence from the Leaving Cert msuic students that starred in Portumna CS's rendition of 'Grease' in trying to deliver some of it's most famous songs like 'Summer Nights' and 'Grease is the Word'.
Maths: We continued learning about analytics.
Irish: We analysed 'Clare sa Speir' for our Fainne award.
Tutor: Ms.Murtagh explained what we should be expecting to happen in the next few weeks and she told us where we would be going and what we would be doing.
Construction: The class continued working on Solid Works.
Guidance: The class conitnued working on the Careers Portal website.
English: As the school mass was on Tuesday September 19th, and we don't have english class on a Monday and we went to Delphi from Wednesday to Friday, we didn't have english class this week.
Art: Our class travelled down to Portumna Castle to sketch the different structures and designs.
Business: As our class has Business class on a Wednesday Afternoon, we did not participate in Business class this week due to the class travelling to Delphi from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd September.
Religion: We were shown a video on the European Declaration of Human Rights.
Information Technology: As our class has I.T class on a Wednesday Afternoon, we did not participate in I.T class this week due to the class travelling to Delphi from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd September.

P.E: We played tennis and learned about the game.
Enterprise: We learned theory about entrepreneurship.
Drama: Mr.Coughlan cast the roles for our classe's production of 'Philadelphia Here I Come' by Brain Friel.
French: We continued working on worksheets.
Music: We worked on learning and singing the tonic solfa.
Maths: We discussed maths' influence in real life and how it helps us in everyday life.
Irish: We used our irish classes during this week to compose a report on our experience in Delphi.
Tutor: We were in a dancing workshop with Angela Didek on Tuesday 26th so we did'nt have tutor.
Construction: We worked on Solid Works again.
Guidance: We were in the millinery workshop with Suzie Mahony on Tuesday 26th which meant we missed our guidance class.
English: We watched videos and clips about All-Ireland Sunday and how the whole atmosphere of the All-Ireland is created.
Art: We went down to Portumna Castle and Gardens to sketch plants and leaves and to study designs and patterns in nature.
Business: We studied more theory in preparation for and assessment coming up in the future.
Information Technology: We were told about how technology helps us in real life and how we can use technology to our advantage in the education system.
Religion: We held a walking debate to determine were people stand when it comes to social and justice issues both in this country and abroad.
European Studies: Our teacher told us about different competitions and projects that we could get involved in to compete against other schools in the country and europe.
Science: We researched what young scienist projects have gotten furhtest in the competition and compared our projects to those that won prizes or got special awards to see how we might be able improve if we get though.
Home Economics: We made pancakes in this class as it was our first home economics class.
Week 6 : Oct.3rd-6th
P.E: We were briefed on what would be involved in Leaving Certificate if we were to take it on as a subject next year.
Enterprise: We learned the difference between different types of entrpreneurs such as non-profit organisations and they commercial entrepreneurs.
Drama: We learned and practiced songs for the variety show such as 'Calypso' from Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat and 'Little List' from the Hot Mikado.
French: We worked on comprehensions and we took vocabulary from the piece that we could us in our Leaving Certificate exam for essays or in our french oral.
Music: We practiced playing the ukaleles and danced and sang to songs from 'All Shook Up'.
Maths: We completed a business plan based on our understanding of analytics.
Irish: We learned vocabulary from our Leaving Certificate oral books.
Tutor: Ms.Murtagh allowed us to work on our e-portfolios.
Construction: We worked on e-drawing on Solid Works.
Guidance: We did a personality on Careers Portal to determine what area of the work force we should consider joining.
English: We began reading the novel 'The Help' aswell as completing a chapter summary everynight and a personal reflection.
Art: We made clay bowls aswell as designing them and using fabrics for texture.
Business: We learned about dfferent types of entrpreneurs and business people.
Information Technology: We worked on our e-portfolios aswell as getting a tutorial of how to navigate the weebly website.
Religion: We worked on worksheets to do with social justice aswell as inequality throughout the world today.

P.E: We did the beep test along with learning about fundamental movements and we were also thaught how to run correctly.
Enterprise: We continued to work on our enterprise ideas and researched the market for our products or services.

Science: We began studying Leaving Certificate genetics ie. learning about X and Y chromosomes.
European Studies: We read about the history of the European Union and what was ten called the 'EEC'.
Religion: Ms.Dunne told us stories about her adventures volunteering abroad, aswell as telling us about the Team Hope shoebox appeal.

Maths: We attempted mind-boggling logistic mathematical riddles and problems to help develop the logistical side of our brains.
Irish: We began studying sraith pictúirí in class as part of our leaving cert course as they come up during the irish oral.
Tutor: Ms.Murtagh told us about the TY Bank of Ireland NUIG Academy and we entered if we were interested in going.

Information Technology: Mr.Molamphy showed us how to communicate through the digital system, using Microsoft Office 365. He also showed us how to share information in groups online.
Religion: We completed worksheets, used stilmulus to do crreative writing, in my case a poem and in Thursday's class, we discussed 'Mary untier of Knots'.
European Studies: We reflected on our knowledge of the European Union.
Science: We took down the steps of the method to carry out a Leaving Cert biology experiment that we will be doing the week after midterm.
