The reasons I would like to do transition year:
- I think I would benefit from an extra year attending Portumna Community School. As I am one of the younger students in my year, transition year would give me the perfect opportunity to grow and develop as a student and as a person.
- Participation in the activities and projects that are organised as part of this programme, eg. The Young Scientist competition, The TY musical, The Student Enterprise competition.
- Transition year would allow my class and I to grow together as a group, the activities that are available in TY would help us fuse together as a group and would make our year a more united student body.
My aims for Transition Year:
- Gain more self-confidence and grow to become more comfortable speaking and making presentations in front of my class group.
- During my transition year experience I hope to mature, the portfolio required to be completed and the work experience write-ups will teach me organisational skills and how to prepare for, and meet deadlines.
- As I worked hard in Junior Cycle, I would benefit from a deserved break from studying, although still doing my necessary work. I would also take this time to prepare for Senior Cycle and make sure I am ready for my Leaving Cert.
My objectives for the year:
- By the end of my TY experience, I would like to have experienced many eye-opening experiences such as working with those in St. Dympna’s. I think it would change my perspective about the work of those who care for the members of our community who face more struggles than the people I meet on a daily basis. I think working in such an environment would teach me a lot about not taking my assets for granted.
- As part of TY I would like to use my work experience to explore many different career options as I am still unsure of what career path I will take. By the end of TY I would like to be a step closer as to knowing what I would like to do when I leave Portumna.
- To express and develop my creative, artistic, and scientific side by taking part in competitions such as the BTYSTE and The Student Enterprise competition. The Gaisce award would also be of interest as I would develop social skills and become more co-operative with my fellow classmates.
- Join the debating team, I would like to practise speaking in front of crowds and expressing my opinions on particular topics.
- I would like to be a part of the school bank also in TY, I like the whole area of business and while doing the subject of business studies I think I would be suited to managing or helping in the running of the school bank.
Why I think I’m suited to doing TY:
- I’m a hard worker who takes pride in my work, carry out everything to the best of my ability and would do anything to succeed.
- I’m easy to work with and able to take direction.
- I work using my own initiative and am comfortable in leading others for the greater good of the group.
