Between the dates of Wednesday September 6th and Thrusday September 7th, we hosted Jeffrey Allen and Agata Hidalgo from The Healthy Lifestyle Program.
During the course of the two days, we discussed the affects of an unbalanced diet on the body and how excess sugar and bad fats increase our chances of developing type two diabetes and obesity. Using this information, we figured out the great benefits we would gather from doing precisely the opposite of all the bad lifestyle choices listed above.
As well as discussing diet, we also learned about how much exercise we should be taking part in daily. For a healthy lifestyle, we should participate in 60 minutes of vigorous exercise. To show us how to exercise efficiently and to try and build our self-esteem sports-wise, we were brought outside on a few occasions to be taught practically about our bodies, fitness and how to 'live like the hunter'. The Hunter games we created by Jeffrey and Agata in order to get the youth they speak to more involved in their organisation and to make their workshop more practical. The goal is to practice these simple, fun games with the objective being at the end of the year that a number of schools would compete in these activities and a prize would be presented to the winning school.
I think this workshop really kick-started my journey to become fitter, more pro-active and more confident in my own body. From listening to all of Jeffrey's war stories, it made me think of the great and admirable job our armed forces do and gave me a greater appreciation of Ireland's defence forces. Aswell as that, these stories motiviated me to be the best I can be and do the best I can in every situation I find myself in.
The diagram to the left shows one of the
pieces of advice Jeffrey and Agata shared
with us as these are the 6 components
we need in life in order to lead a healthy,
well balanced life.
To the right are the stages a peer group
and indeed any group of people must go through
in order to reach the final step or objective which,
of course is success.
