On September 14th, our whole Transition Year group went on a retreat to Knock Shrine. There were many guest speakers speaking at the event, Including John Lonergan, Cara Augustine, Fr.Peter McVerry and the inspirational Joanne O'Riordan.
The event was organised and orchestrated by the society of St.Vincent de Paul to promote young people becoming more involved in their local community. After each speech, in our mixed school groups, we had time for reflection and we gave feedback and posed questions to the guest speakers and the topics they discussed in their presentations.
I learned that communication and sharing are necessary to take care of other people, our environment and ourselves. All four guest speakers taught me a lot about caring for those around us and how to live a great life. From listening to such impressive, inspirational and admirable stories, I have developed a greater sense of gratitude to those who take it upon themselves to make the world a happier, healthier, cleaner, safer place where everyone helps each other to grow and prosper as human beings and to help the world benefit from our existence rather than the people of this generation taking advantage of the world and resources we have at our finger tips when we are doing harm to the world for future generations to come.
